10 Wasserschloss
bei Pumpspeicheranlagen werden durch den oftmals raschen Wechsel vom Generator- zum Pumpbetrieb - und umgekehrt - Druckstöße erzeugt. Um Beschädigungen an den Rohrleitungen bzw. Stollen zu vermeiden, aber auch um beim Anfahren der Turbinen bzw. Pumpen schnell ausreichend viel Wasser zur Verfügung zu haben, werden Wasserschlösser angeordnet, die meistens im anstehenden Gebirge gebaut werden. Das Schachtwasserschloss besteht nur aus einem einfachen, meistens vertikalen Schacht, der als Reservoir dient und in dem das Wasser auf- und abschwingen kann, um Druckunterschiede auszugleichen. Tritt der belüftete Schacht am oberen Ende vollständig ins Freie, wird er mit einer "überfalltasse" ausgestattet, um bei extremen Druckstößen den Austritt von Wasser abzufangen.
